After the success of last year's effort to install random pianos around the city, the part-community service, part-art installation, all-awesome project Play Me, I'm Yours returns for a second summer in Paris. As the brainchild of British artist Luke Jerram, forty beautifully, uniquely decorated pianos will be set up in public spaces all around Paris for three weeks starting this Friday. Anybody, from classically trained musicians to amateurs can sit down and tickle the ivories.
You can seek out pianos from the list on the website, but sometimes it's nice to just come across them by mistake. I remember happening past one last year in the underground shopping center beneath the Louvre. Some random teenage girl just sat down, played an incredible, elegant piece from memory, then got up and left with her friends (she's pictured above). There's something so beautiful about this ephemeral, random and public freedom. Music to the people.
If you're not in Paris, check out the list of locations and see if there's a Play Me, I'm Yours in your town! Other worldwide locations include Geneva, Cleveland, Omaha, and Boston.

Such a nice idea, I hope I see one. They have an old piano sitting in St. Pancras near the Eurostar terminal in London that is always fun. Can't wait for La FĂȘte de La Musique!
