December Expat Blog Hop - With A Music Giveaway!

(photo of my bedroom door courtesy of Stephanie Land)

It's time for another Expat Blog Hop! I love this event as it's a great way to discover more blogs and for me it's an opportunity to get a little personal for once.

So what's it like being an expat? Having spent almost all of 2012 in Paris, I of course learned a lot about myself, but the main lesson I learned was to try. Try as hard as you can! It seems obvious, and it's a good lesson for life in general, but I wouldn't have made friends in Paris, or learned a good pocketful of dirty French words, or known how to walk home after the Métro stops running at 1am if I hadn't tried at least a little bit every day to do or learn something new. If you are considering a move to somewhere near or far, or making a change in your life, or even feel stuck in regular life, this is the best advice I could give: nobody is going to do it for you. You have to try, and when you do, the whole world opens up to you.

To welcome my new readers as well as thank my faithful readers, I'm offering an early holiday gift - an awesome mixtape of all my favorite French songs (in the form of .mp3 files)! This fun mix ranges from classic crooners (Yves Montand and Serge Gainsbourg) to modern electropop (Yelle), with sleek/sexy (Jef Barbara) and romantic (Les Doubles Six) additions as well as some rock (Summer Camp) and chillaxing poolside music (Aline). There's even that charming Françoise Hardy song from "Moonrise Kingdom" and much more.

This mix is sure to have you humming and dancing along, and could even help you learn a few new words here and there (I learned quite a few new words and phrases from Placebo's "Mars Landing Party"). If you'd like a copy of The Paris Cheapskate French Music Mix, shoot me a Bonjour email at ParisCheapskate (at) gmail (dot) com and I'll send you the download link. Don't worry, I won't be sending you emails other than that, unless you need someone far away to talk to.

Bienvenue and check out the other blogs on the Hop:

  2. I'm so glad I'm doing this blog hop and discovering such cool blogs. I'm signing up for yours. I love Paris and even tho I live here in France, I don't get up there often enough. It is expensive, so I'm always looking for ways to do Paris moins cher.

  5. I really like this blog and I know I'm going to follow for all of those great tips you have. I wouldn't call you cheskate but smart. Face it who doesn't like a deal in Paris, especially the one on the cupcakes. Will have to bring my daughters for those. They love cupcakes!
